Fish Against Addiction Speckled Trout Fishing Tournament is a nonprofit organization founded by the family and friends of Tyler Dees.

Not only is this tournament being held in Tyler's name, but in honor of those who have lost their battle with drugs/fentanyl toxicity and alcohol, those who are struggling with addiction and are in rehabilitation centers, and those who have overcome addiction.

We recognized after Tyler's passing that we wanted to help the community in Carteret County by providing support to our local treatment centers.

The organizations provide shelter, education, and support for men and women in Carteret County seeking recovery.

Mission

?To make a difference for individuals battling breast cancer through fishing, fun, and fellowship.

About

Fishin' For A Cure is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with events based across North Carolina. The goal of Fishin' For A Cure is to raise awareness of the importance of early detection as well as fighting to find a cure for women’s cancers.

?History

?Fishin' For A Cure was created in 2013. Originally, Fishin' For A Cure began with a small group of women who wanted to take their friend, recently diagnosed with breast cancer, fishing. Over time the group of supportive friends grew and grew.

In its first year, 2013, Fishin' For A Cure, the organization raised over $21,000 to support local non-profit organizations. In 2022, we reached our goal of $1,000,000. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, friends for an earlier breast cancer test (earlier.org) and Little Pink Houses of Hope have been recipients of these funds. In 2014, Fishin’ For A Cure established a hope fund. This money is earmarked specifically for those who may need assistance during their cancer journey.

Hope Mission of Carteret County, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. Hope Mission serves the Carteret County community by providing food, shelter, emergency financial assistance, and other means of support such as emotional support, mentoring and counseling.

At Hope Mission, we believe that homeless folks and those that are on the edge or have substance abuse issues have lost their sense of identity. Much of the time that loss of a sense of identity is because of the disconnection from family and community. At Hope Mission, we do everything we can to give them back that sense of belonging

North Carolina Guardian ad Litem (GAL) equips community volunteers to serve abused and neglected children by advocating for their best interests in court. A GAL advocate is a trained community volunteer who is appointed, along with a Guardian ad Litem attorney and staff member, by a district court judge to investigate and determine the needs of abused and neglected children petitioned into the court system by the Department of Social Services. Their role is mandated by North Carolina General Statute 7B-601. The main GAL qualification is having a sincere concern for the well-being of children and a willingness to commit to serving on a child's case until permanence is achieved. Throughout NC the GAL Program seeks to serve the best interests of thoursand of children who find themselves the subjects of court cases by assigning them a GAL volunteer. Our program exists in every county throughout the state, and with the help of more than 5,300 volunteers, we serve more than 18,000 children per year.
