Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Breaks Ground on New 93,000-Square-Foot Fitness Center
Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point proudly announces the groundbreaking of a state-of-the-art, 93,000-square-foot fitness center, marking a pivotal investment in the health and readiness of our Marines and Sailors. The eagerly awaited facility, slated to replace the installation's outdated 13,260-square-foot gym housed in a converted warehouse since 1997, underscores MCAS Cherry Point's commitment to supporting the physical and mental well-being of our service members.
Commanding Officer Col. Brendan Burks, along with representatives from the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, Marine Corps Community Services, MCAS Cherry Point Facilities, and Mayor of Havelock, William L. Lewis Jr., led the ceremonial groundbreaking for the $57.7 million P658 Fitness Center and Training Pool project. Awarded on August 1, 2024, this new facility has been anticipated for nearly 30 years and is designed to meet the rigorous fitness demands of Cherry Point’s community with dedicated spaces for training, strength-building, aquatics, and overall wellness.
“This is a monumental time for Cherry Point," said Col. Burks. "This will be our first purpose-built gym here, and this gym will give the Marines that physical advantage they need to go forward and do our Nation's bidding. I cannot thank everybody enough for all their efforts."
Scheduled for completion in Fall 2026, the new fitness center aligns with the Marine Corps’ Total Fitness (MCTF) approach, emphasizing comprehensive warfighter readiness through physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being. This facility will play a vital role in advancing Cherry Point’s mission to build resilience and readiness among its force.
