Community Rallies to Support Families Facing Tragedy

This week, our hearts are heavy as we face unimaginable tragedies affecting two families in our school community.
We mourn the loss of a 14-year-old former student in a devastating house fire, along with a relative. This young man leaves behind siblings at one of our elementary schools who are grappling with the unimaginable loss of their brother and family member at such young ages.
Additionally, we are praying for a 9th grader at West Carteret High School who collapsed at home after school due to an undiagnosed hereditary heart issue. She was rushed to Greenville and remains in serious condition, with her prognosis still uncertain due to oxygen deprivation. This family also has siblings in one of our elementary schools and faces a long road ahead.
The Carteret County Public School Foundation is working with both of these families during this incredibly challenging time. While our foundation dedicates resources to support students and staff in crisis, the needs of these families are overwhelming, and we are reaching out for community support. If you feel moved to help, we kindly invite you to contribute to our Assistance Fund. You can be assured that your contributions will go directly to the immediate needs of these families, making a meaningful impact when they need it most.
In times like these, it’s essential to remember that our community is no stranger to heartbreak and crisis, but we have always shown that we come together to support one another.
