It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Awni "John" Hamad, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Born March 22, 1935, in Al-Bireh, Palestine, John left us on February 8, 2025, at the age of 89, surrounded by those who loved him most. His wife of 63 years, Suzy Hamad, 4 children, Summer Hamad Hamdan, Camer Hamad Hasan, Samer Hamad, and Saed Hamad, 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

A man of unwavering faith and integrity, John was the epitome of selflessness and devotion. As a father, he nurtured and supported his children with boundless love, always putting their needs above his own. His role as a grandfather was filled with joy, as he reveled in the laughter of his grandchildren, passing on life lessons that will be treasured for generations.

John moved to Morehead City in 1971 after vacationing there and started his professional life in Carteret County. He was a hardworking and honest businessman, trusted by all who had the privilege to know him. His word was his bond, and his reliability and dedication were the foundation of his success. His legacy in business was built not just on transactions, but on building meaningful relationships grounded in trust, respect, and integrity.

A man of deep faith, John lived by the values that guided him throughout his life: kindness, humility, and a steadfast belief in doing what was right, no matter the circumstances. His presence was a constant source of comfort and strength to all who knew him. He could light up a room with his smile and had a joke or two to share, to help brighten your day.

John leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished in the hearts of those he touched. His memory will live on through his family and all who were fortunate to know him. A true gentleman, devoted to family, faith, and friendship, he will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
