The Tiller School of Carteret County is accepting Applications for the 25-26 school year, now through February 7, 2025. Tiller is a tuition free, arts integrated, Responsive Classroom Charter School with over 30 years experience in educating students. You can come by the school office and pick up an application or fill out an application online by clicking here.

The Vision of Tiller School is: Creating Navigators for Life. We support our belief through our Mission of being dedicated to fostering creativity, confidence, and enthusiasm for learning through arts integration, family engagement, and a responsive academic and social curriculum. We support our belief by making a concerted effort to know our students as individuals. We believe education is the shared responsibility of the student, home, school, and community and work with these stakeholders to ensure a well rounded, quality, education at Tiller.

PROFILE

Tiller School was established as a private school in 1993. In the spring of 1998, Tiller School applied for and was granted charter status by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. We are located at 1950 Live Oak Street in Beaufort, North Carolina. The 3.5 acre campus hosts 2 playgrounds and 4 buildings. We have a total of 15 classrooms, an assembly building, and an administrative building.

Tiller School is home to 200+ students who are challenged through the rigorous curricula taught by highly qualified teachers in a responsive classroom, arts integrated environment. Our dedicated teachers, motivated students, and involved parents create a climate of school community. We welcome parent involvement and work to build relationships with our stakeholders. Our goal is to educate all children and support the whole child. We believe in our mission of creating navigators for life!

RANKING: School ranking is calculated by state mandated End of Grade Tests in 3rd-5th grade Reading and Math, and 5th grade Science. Tiller ranks among the top 20% of K-5 Charter Schools in NC.

COURSE OFFERINGS: We offer a responsive classroom schedule allowing for a Morning Meeting, core subjects, quiet time, two recesses daily, art and music twice a week, and a closing circle.

GRADING SCALE: Tiller School uses standards based grading. A standards based grading system focuses on mastering the concepts and skills. This allows for teachers and parents to individually support the exact growth needs of students.
