Through grassroots efforts, the Carteret Food and Health Council (CFHC) recently received a VERY generous donation of non-perishable food items from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Earlier this month, 32,000 pounds of food was delivered and distributed throughout the county to a total of 24 pantries, churches, and related non-profit organizations.

This truly was a community effort.  What started from a simple posting in a local Facebook group about our efforts to address food insecurity, turned into a three-day event that involved the help of the Salvation Army, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in MHC and Jacksonville, the Unitarian Coastal Fellowship in MHC, St Francis by the Sea in Salter Path, and dozens of volunteers.

Our Council is beyond thankful for this tremendous opportunity to continue to reduce food waste, assist our local food pantries in addressing food insecurity in Carteret County, and bring more awareness to the issues of food equity and food instability in our communities.
