Mill Whistle Brewing is Carteret County’s oldest craft brewery, incorporated in 2013.  It takes its name from being on the site of the old lumber mill that closed in the 1970s.  The original mill steam-whistle hangs on the wall inside the taproom. This whistle used to sound at the end of the workday to let workers know it was the end of the workday. Outside, the replica sounds at 4:45 daily, now letting people know that its beer o’clock.  Current owner grew up in Beaufort, attending elementary school in the building on Mulberry and eventually graduating East Carteret. After being out of the area for 20+ years, he jumped into the idea of hometown brewery ownership headfirst, having never brewed before!
